Bear Hollow Ice Bowl Recap and Get Ready for the Pitt Ice Bowl at Four Oaks Golf Course in Pittsburg, Kansas on January 31st - Jan 21st, 2015
All in attendance at the 1st ever Bear Hollow Ice Bowl in Ava, Missouri last Saturday was fortunate to enjoy unseasonable weather. It was nearly 60 degrees as 60 players came to try their luck at the first tournament with the course permanently installed. Although the terrain was a bit sloppy, few complained because it wasn't ice. There was some wind the second round, but it was still a remarkable day for disc golf in January!
Nick Helm, TD and organizer had two goals listed on the flier: $400 and 150 lbs of food. Nearly 150 lbs of food was raised, and even more impressive and exciting is the fact the monetary goal was more than doubled with over $900 being raised for the Heart of the Hills Food Pantry and Thrift Store! On behalf of Nick Helm and the City of Ava, a huge thank you and several pats on the back for all who took part in this event!! Who knows this may even lead to an annual event or perhaps a stop on the Tour as a PDGA event. Whatever happens, this was a record for a first Ice Bowl both in attendance and money raised. We were blessed with a near perfect day for this event!
Winners included Sandy Leech -Women's, Ray Renner – Recreational, Seth Black & Ray Presnell tied and played a sudden death CTP in which Seth Black won, Chris Dangler - Advanced, and Andrew Presnell – Open. Congratulations to each of you! The other big winner taking home a Monkey Trap was Mike Sisco. I thought this was fitting since he has worked hard on installing a disc golf course on his property that is opened to the public. If you have yet to play the course in Westplains you should.
DON'T FORGET JANUARY 31st IS THE PITT ICE BOWL TO BE HELD AT THE FOUR OAKS BALL GOLF COURSE ON AN 18 HOLE TEMPORARY LAYOUT! HOPE TO SEE YOU THERE!!
