The Monkey Trap Open was a Hot One...the Wrap Up. - Jul 20th, 2015
The Monkey Trap Open Was a Hot One!
Saying the Monkey Trap Open was a hot one may have been an understatement. With temperatures in the mid 90's and the humidity seeming to be working over time, it made competing even tougher than normal. Eight five gallon jugs may have not been enough to keep all 78 players fully hydrated as one jug was emptied in less than 12 holes of play. The good news was, I didn't hear of anyone overheating and this was a win in itself. The steady breeze provided some relief and was welcomed.
The temperature was not the only thing that was Hot though. The division leaders were hot as well. The races were extremely tight in almost all divisions. Only one to three strokes strokes separated 1st and 2nd in: Rec, Int Wn, Int, Grand Masters, and Adv Masters. James Gross won by the largest margin in the Advanced division. Jennifer Leftwich overcame Staci Healey in a play off in the Rec Women's division. The top dog Open field also took a play off to decide a champion where Derek “Big Guns” Norris took out local Dasun Keyler in a bonus three hole dual. Congratulations to all the champs and those who cashed!
Each player enjoyed a great player's pack provided by Innova champion disc. Star Rocamonga, dri fit shirt, hat, mini, pencil, and a meal provided Popeye's Chicken was this year's spoils for all. There was also an EDGE Raffle and Ring of Fire that provided several players some extra winnings. I think some of the favorite times by several players was sitting in the ice cold children's wing of the church. The Monkey Trap definitely does not ever lack on facilities to accommodate a crowd!
To Cross Church, all sponsors, players, and anyone who helped in any way, Thank you for supporting and making the 6th Annual Monkey Trap a big success!
