Discn' for Cheetahs II Recap - Apr 18th, 2017
Discn' for Cheetahs II was held at Grubaugh Park in Ozark, MO this past Saturday the 15th. This course is definitely one of the more beautiful and beginner friendly courses in the area. The weather was nearly perfect with highs around 80 and lots of
Sunshine. Wind was definitely a factor this year, but nothing extreme.
This event is was a Professional Disc Golf Association Event and was part of Disc Golf Monkeys "Make Disc Golf Great Again" Tour. Partnering up with the Dickerson Park "Friends of the Zoo" and the Ozarks AAZK (Cheetah Habitat supporters) has proven to be a great pairing. Last year we held this event in October and managed to get 61 players and raise $900 ($400 over the goal). This year we raised $1,500 and had 90 players. The money raised will go toward the local Education of Cheetahs and the Cheetah Habitat in Kenya. Pictured you can see my daughter Angelia and I handing the check to Matt Cory (one of the zoo's care takers and tournament organizer) and Roni the Cheetah posing with us.
There were three major sponsors for this event. Local business owner Doug Bowen of Elephant & Castle Fine Arms was eager to support this tournament. Friends of the Zoo and Gordan's Feed & Pet were also the main contributors. Other sponsors included the following: Coca Cola, Electric Puff Vapor Shop, Boat & Town Brewery, Bob Corrie of Heller Chevrolet, Lisa Tantome Remax Realtors, Momma Mary's Navajo Taco Truck, Urban Fix Home Inspectors, and Fossa. This event could not have been as successful without these sponsors. From all of us thank you!
There were 9 separate divisions at the Discn' for Cheetahs tournament. The winners all received a trophy plaque "paw painted" by Roni of the Dickerson Park Zoo. The winners included the following:
Open Pro Men - Dasun Keyler
Open Pro Women - Staci Healey
Advanced Am - Sam Funderburgh
Advanced Grandmaster - Matt King
Intermediate - Nathaniel Million
Recreational - Hunter McDowell
Recreational Women - Meagan Brooks
Junior Girls - Lilly Mangrum
Junior Boys - Hayden Shepard
Congratulations to all of you.
To all who participated in any way, we'd like to say thank you and there are plans of doing this again next year!
