Hanna Hills Recap - May 2nd, 2022

The 4th Annual Hanna Hills Open Recap (Try 2)

As many of you know Hanna Hills is a beautiful and challenging course near Fort Leonard Wood in the town of Laquey, MO. The Par 65 course is filled with scenic beauty that displays the gorgeous Ozark Mountain terrain. Trees, rocks, elevation, ponds, short holes, long holes, and so much more make up this paradise. As a bonus to the scenery the owners, Vic and Diana, are simply awesome. You could not have any better hosts! Along with all the above, there are also animals galore: goats, ducks, peacocks, dogs, cats, and an endless amount of birds to be seen if your lucky. Definitely one of my favorite places to be, and it is a privilege to be able to showcase Hanna on my tour.

I want to take a second to thank Vic & Diana for opening their land for us to play this tournament. A big shout out to Jeff Ford owner of Patriots Gold & Silver who was our title sponsor. To parker Asay for coming up with another great logo for discs and shirts, thank you and as always your art skills are over the top! A big thanks to Dynamic Discs for making Parker’s art come to life on the great looking discs and shirts. I also want to thank Andres Flores being the non playing assistant TD (PDGA’s new requirement in 2022 for B tiers and above) who helped with course set up and tear down as well. To Kevin Carder for helping with all of the technology side of the tournament. You are appreciated more than you know! To Michael Bentele for being the best running man (being asked to be all over) to make things run as smooth as possible. I would also like to thank my wife and kiddo for making the trip to help serve food and show their support.

This year Eighty eight players filled up the 9 division field. The day started cool with a crisp bite in the air that made most wear an extra layer of clothing to keep the chill off. Most of the first round was cool, but thankfully the sun was out and warmed things up just enough to make things near perfect for disc golf at Hanna. Mother Nature opened up some added water on holes 1, 2, and 3 that are often water free. Although the water made it even more beautiful, the filled and over flowing ponds made Hanna even tougher.

In between rounds the players were fed a pulled pork sandwich meal that was catered by Red Ox Barbecue. Carl Jackson, the owner, can be found at Axes and O’s in Marshfield, MO Wednesday through Saturday. If you are in the area give Red Ox Barbecue a try!

At the end of the round there was a throw off for the Ace Pot followed by a raffle. Corey Chaney had the winning ticket for the grand prize of
A Spider Trap, but I believe he said someone else was the actual winner. Whoever won it, I hope it helps you lower your scores with the putting practice you will now get in on your new basket!

There were definitely some issues that were mentioned and we have a plan to correct the shortcomings. The PDGA’s strong suggestion for going paperless bit is this time and therefore we will have printed resources taped to the check in table from now on. We will also have Alternate places to look for information about the event despite the multiple face book pages and my web site incase an issue arises as it did this time. Remember that if you ever have any questions or concerns you may call, text, or instant message. It is advised you do this well before the event. We appreciate constructive criticism as we always try to do our best to provide fun, competitive, and smooth running events on our tour.

Recreational Men Division (13 players):
The first and second place finishers distanced them selves from the field as both players kept their scores in single digits. Brian Mason was only one off Trenton Dean’s 65. Trent held off Brian in the second round by two and gave him the win shooting a final score of +6.

The Intermediate division was our largest field with 22 competitors. Josh Hickman demolished the field shooting a -5. Is a “Move Up” in order. With that convincing win I would say there is a good argument for it! Rounding out the top four were Samuel Crump and Ryan Burns finishing tied for 2nd at +2. In 4th just one stroke back (+3) was Brendon Rost.

The MA 50+ had five players competing. John Parsons of Marshall, MO was able to take down 1st by only a stroke over our Title sponsor provider Jeff Ford.

Julie Crouch was the only FA 40+ player. She was able to better her score by one stroke in the second round. We need to find you some competition lady!

There were 7 in the Am 40+ division. Aaron Ulrich made a rare showing and took down a big win shooting a 138 holding off Todd Sander who shot 142 and Jeremy Surratt who finished at 144.

In the Advanced division there were 10 players. Alec Knopf who is on a great run took down the division with a strong -6! Chris Pilarski was second with a -2 score which narrowly held off Barak Barton and Garrett Bacon who tied for 3rd shooting -1.

The MP 50+ division had 6 players. It was quite a battle with there being a 3 way tie with only 6 holes left. Despite great playing by Mitch McClelland, Corey Riley, and Ryan Kanovich, I was able to get my first win in a play off on hole 1 with Ryan. Incredible group of guys and a tough field!

There were 5 Open Women which was definitely awesome to see. It isn’t often that we see a full card of ladies competing at that level around here. Katie Belty, who has been on the road quite a bit lately, said she was on her way to Colorado after this event. She dominated the competition shooting a strong +7 total. Katie came out with a 69 in round one. This gave her a 2 stroke lead over Alexis Kerman, 8 strokes over Lauren Butler & Fresa Jacob’s, and 11 over Millie Cowgill. Katie cruised to an easy win, but the real battle was for 2nd. Lauren, Millie, and Fresa all came back strong shooting 70, 69 and 73. The ladies finished in that order with Alexis having a really tough round and finishing 5th.

The Open division had a great showing with 19 players. Alex Berg started off hot shooting a opening round 57. He then got hotter in the second round shooting a 55 with a final score of -18. Tyler Frank and Zackeriath came back strong in the second round shooting 13 down to tie for 2nd. Taylor Thomas and Cameron Ivey tied for 4th shooting -10
